If you’re a first year undergraduate, chances are you haven’t thought too deeply about your career just yet. But no matter how long you’ve still got to work out the details, there’s no time like the present to get an idea of the sector(s) you might be interested in! Here’s just a few reasons you should apply for the Behind Manchester’s Doors scheme this year.
1. Get a feel for a specific sector
If any of the following sectors pique your interest, a successful application for Behind Manchester’s Doors would give you the opportunity to get a taste for what working there would actually be like by visiting two different Manchester companies over the course of a day. Have a look at the list and apply for your favourite day!
- Marketing, Advertising and PR
- Media and Communications
- Government / Charities / Public sector
- Law
- Finance and Business
2. Start to build your network
Visiting two different companies will allow you to meet the people who work at each place, and give you a great chance to practise your networking skills! There will be plenty of opportunity to chat to the representatives you meet, to find out more about their day-to-day role and how they broke into the industry.
3. Get experience in a live issue for your CV
At each company we visit, you’ll get the chance to work on a mini-project or case study, based around a real issue or task that the company is working on. Find out the sorts of skills you would need to be successful in the role and gain experience you can add to your CV to demonstrate your interest in the area!
Hopefully this has given you an idea of what you can gain from getting involved with Behind Manchester’s Doors in 2023.
