Whether you are a new or returning student here at The University of Manchester, welcome! The start of the academic year is a great time to get involved with the Careers Service. We can help you make the most of your time at University and prepare you for your future – here’s how:
Attend online workshops and employer events
We run a number of events, workshops and careers fairs throughout the year to help you understand a variety of sectors and help you boost your careers skills.
We are delighted to bring you a diverse programme of online workshops this semester including; Get Career Ready in Your Final Year, Manchester Graduate Talent Q&A and CV and Applications: The Basics for current or recent postgraduates. Workshops are a great way to learn more about a specific topic and connect with your Careers Service team. Missed a workshop you really wanted to attend? Don’t forget that all recorded sessions are uploaded onto our YouTube channel. You can catch up at your own convenience 24/7!
We also host employer and recruiter events which provide you with the opportunity to talk directly to employers, connect with professionals and learn more about recruitment processes. Coming up this semester are a range of employer sessions including, BAME Early Careers Conference in STEMM & Business, HSBC – Be Recruitment Ready and Frontline Information Session and Q&A.
All upcoming events and workshops are advertised on CareerConnect and you can search through to find ones you are specifically interested in by event type, date or keyword or can view them on the calendar within CareerConnect.
Finding jobs and experience
Whether you are in your first year, final year or a postgraduate student, you may be looking for a work opportunity to gain experience or for a role to start your career.
There is a variety of ways you can gain experience – through volunteering, a part time job or an internship. We understand it’s not that simple to find a role that’s right for you, so we offer support to help you navigate your search. Visit our website to find a range of ways you can search for roles.
Don’t forget that as a Manchester student you can apply for a variety of schemes that are exclusive to UoM students or graduates! Managed opportunities for current students include Student Experience Internships and if you’re a graduate, make sure you check out Manchester Graduate Talent roles.
Help with applications and interviews
We offer advice and guidance for applications and interviews whether you are looking for a part-time role whilst studying, seeking work experience, applying for further study or looking for a graduate job. A great way to get started is to check our dedicated web pages to find the right support for you.
We also have a range of useful resources to help you get prepare for job applications. Check out CareerSet, our online CV checker where you can upload your existing CV or draft your first CV and receive instant personalised feedback. You can also use Shortlist.Me, our online interview preparation platform to help you prepare for an upcoming interview.
If you would prefer to chat to someone, we also run Application Review appointments where you can discuss your cover letter, personal statement or application form with a Careers Consultant.
