Coming to the end of your degree? Whether you know exactly what you want to do next or have no idea, the Careers Service is here for you.
Offering full access to the Careers Service for two years after you complete your course, the Careers Service can help you with whatever you want to do next. Find a graduate job, move abroad, apply for further study, start a business – the Careers Service will give you advice, support and guidance, no matter what your future plans are.
There is a whole section of the Careers Service website dedicated to graduates. This is where you will find information about upskilling, preparing for the workplace, an introduction to the Graduate Outcomes survey, and careers stories from other recent alumni. You can also continue to use CareerConnect to look for vacancies, book appointments with career consultants and find events.
- Attend Future Fortnight (13-24 June 2022)
Future Fortnight is a two week programme of career workshops and activities especially for final year students and recent graduates. Come along to have the chance to meet employers, learn how to boost your skills, and get tips on job hunting and applications. There will be a mixture of online and in-person events, so whether you’re still in Manchester or have already moved away, you can still access the programme.
We also have The Grad Fair taking place in the Academy on Tuesday, 14 June, where you’ll have the chance to meet a variety of exhibitors with vacancies you can apply for right now.
Explore the full programme and register for as many events as you like here.
- Create a LinkedIn profile
LinkedIn is a great way to make connections and develop your network. As you come to the end of your time at University, make sure you connect with course-mates, lecturers and careers staff. By joining sector-based groups, connecting with employers, and building a profile, you will be able to use LinkedIn as a tool in your graduate job search. When you attend Careers Service events, you can connect with panellists and other attendees. Finally, you can use LinkedIn to search for job opportunities, research employers, and to see what other graduates did with their degree.
Remember to join The University of Manchester Recent Graduate Careers Network for more employability-related support and information, to network with fellow alumni, and to share careers stories and tips.
- Get experience and build skills
If you have spare time before finishing your course, you might want to consider upskilling. There are plenty of online courses and virtual work experience programmes available. Is there something you feel unconfident about, such as public speaking, or something you always wanted to try, like coding? Go for it – it will look great on your CV too!
