Future Fortnight is a programme of online careers support running from 19 to 30 October. Open to all students and recent graduates from The University of Manchester, it’s is a must for anyone looking for placement or graduate opportunities.
Week 1 (19-23 October) focuses on exploration – considering your skills and interests, thinking about how they match to different sectors, and researching different roles within those industries.
For week 2 (26 – 30 October) we’ll concentrate on taking action – building your network, finding opportunities and perfecting your application and interview technique.

Future Fortnight is packed with chances to network with employers, and find out more about their placement and graduate opportunities.
Week 1 kicks off with The Virtual Finance, Business and Management Careers Fair, bringing together 50 leading recruiters who’ll be promoting their graduate vacancies and placements for 2021. So, whether you’re interested in business, finance, management, HR, consultancy or marketing, join us on Monday, 19 October to find out more.
The following day we’re hosting The Virtual STEM Careers Fair, on Tuesday 20 October. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to meet employers with student and graduate vacancies across a variety of roles within the engineering, science and technology sectors.
The final careers fair of the week is The Virtual Law Fair, on Thursday 22 October, featuring around 40 exhibitors, including solicitors, course providers and representation from professional legal bodies – ideal for both law and non-law students and graduates with an interest in the legal sector.
2. Get help securing a placement
As if three massive digital fairs weren’t enough, we’ve got more!
If you’re interested in doing a placement year, join our webinar on Thursday 22 October, Meet the Employers: Placements. Open to all disciplines, this online session will help you to discover the benefits of a placement year and the impact that students have on businesses. You can ask the panel questions and get advice to help you secure a placement!
3. …Or a graduate job!
Thinking about applying for a graduate scheme? Then mark Friday 23 October in your diaries, for Meet the Employers: Graduate Schemes.
During this lunchtime webinar you’ll have the chance to network with a panel of graduate employers from a range of public and private sectors. You’ll find out more about the structure and application process for their graduate schemes, what they’re looking for in graduate hires, and career opportunities after the schemes have finished.
There will also be an opportunity to ask questions throughout the session and hear directly from employers about what you can do to prepare and impress.
4. Find out how to create your own opportunities
If you’re finding it hard to find placement opportunities or graduate jobs in the industry you’re interested in, this session is for you. Register for the How to Navigate the Hidden Job Marketevent, on Tuesday 27 October.
Join in for insights on how you can unlock the hidden jobs market, make new contacts, access insider industry knowledge and secure a role in your chosen area.
5. Chat to alumni working in the areas you’re interested in
Need inspiration for your placement or graduate job search? One of the best ways to find out more about different sectors is to talk to people working in them!
Future Fortnight will host two online alumni panels Meet the Professionals: Graduate Schemes and Meet the Professionals: Alumni with placement year experience, both taking place on Tuesday 21 October. Not only are these great opportunities to expand your network, you’ll also be able to find out what steps the panellists took to land their roles!
6. Find out how we can help you
You can use the Careers Service throughout your time at uni, and for up to two years after you finish your studies with us. This means that you have access to all of the resources on our website, as well as careers guidance, application advice and interview practice.
