Meet the Professionals – who, what, where, when, why

Written by Jasmine Ketch-Neumann (Student Experience Graduate Intern for MACE)

Calling all students!

With exams over, you’re done with uni for the year- and for our finalists, you’re now finished forever. Let’s face it – the last few months have been WEIRD, and changes in nearly every area of life mean that you might be re-thinking what you thought you wanted to do. Or maybe you haven’t previously had a plan, but now you’re thinking it might be a good time to make one.

So, what if you could talk to people who’ve been through it, graduated, and, found success in industry?

You might have heard of ‘Meet the Professionals’ before – and if not, no problem! Meet the Professionals (MTP) are relatively informal events where you can chat with alumni and learn how they got to where they are today. They’re a great opportunity to ask about recruitment, make connections with big-name companies, and find out what it’s really like to work in industry.

Interested? Join our upcoming Meet the Professionals webinars, featuring alumni from across University who are currently working at industry leaders across the country.

Each webinar will start with a quick introduction from each of our alumni, with a short presentation about their degree, career path post-graduation, and current role. A member of staff will get the ball rolling by asking some initial questions, and then the floor will be opened for webinar attendees to ask questions – the perfect opportunity for you to ask for advice on networking, interviewing, job roles, and anything else you can imagine!

It’s the ideal opportunity to learn more, make connections, and get a boost on your employability – and all from the comfort of your own sofa! Meet The Professionals gives you genuine, up-to-date and real-world advice on industry, the jobs market, and what companies are looking for. You can also discover jobs you may not have even known existed!

The webinars run regularly across a whole variety of areas – coming up are Chemistry and Engineering, but lots more are planned.

If you’re not able to make it, this event will also be recorded and posted on the Careers YouTube channel – which is also a great place to find other workshops and webinars that might help boost your employability.

It really couldn’t be any simpler, so why not swap out Netflix for networking and come join?
