If you’re interested in any sort of public engagement or communications role, or want to help build a thriving community of researchers at the University of Manchester, this is a great chance:
- to make a difference to other researchers
- to develop evidence to demonstrate your leadership potential, and
- to add something to your CV which will make you stand out.
You’re not expected to write all the copy – you can commission others to do that. (I know, as I often get a “can you write a Top Ten Tips on …?” email from someone on the editorial team – here’s an example of an article I wrote on getting what you want in your career.) However, you will need to be a great communicator, and for the social media manager, you’ll have to be fully au fait with the world of blogging, tweeting and whatever other channels you can suggest to get their message out.
Pick up a copy of the latest issue of STEPS, and have a look at the STEPS blog to get an idea of the house style. If you’re interested, read all about it and get your application in by 1st October.
